Sources

A source in Pulse represents a newsletter or feed that you have ingested at least one email from. Pulse tracks sources automatically — a new source is created the first time an email from a given sender address is processed.

Go to Settings → Sources to see a list of all your sources, including:

  • Source name (usually the newsletter name)
  • Sender address
  • Number of articles ingested
  • Affinity scores (Work and Personal) — how strongly Pulse associates this source with each persona
  • Assigned persona (Work, Personal, or Auto)

To stop a source from appearing in future digests without losing its history:

  1. In the source list, click Deactivate on an active source
  2. The source is marked inactive (is_active = false) — all previously ingested content is preserved
  3. The source is excluded from future digest scoring until reactivated
  1. In the source list, find an inactive source (the Reactivate button turns green on hover)
  2. Click Reactivate
  3. The source is restored to active and will be included in future digests again

By default, Pulse infers which persona a source belongs to based on its content tags. You can override this explicitly:

  • Work — all articles from this source are scored against your Work persona only
  • Personal — all articles from this source are scored against your Personal persona only
  • Auto (default) — Pulse uses learned affinity scores to decide

Explicit persona assignment is useful for sources that clearly belong to one category, like a dedicated tech newsletter (Work) or a cooking newsletter (Personal).

You can add secondary email addresses to your account (Settings → Email Addresses). Each address can be assigned a digest persona, so newsletters forwarded from a work email go to your Work digest and newsletters from a personal email go to your Personal digest.

Sources are created automatically when you:

  1. Forward an email to your personal ingest address ({uuid}@pulse.oikon.ai)
  2. Forward an email to the shared address (ingest@pulse.oikon.ai) from a registered email
  3. Import an MBOX archive containing emails from that sender

See Add Your First Source for setup instructions.

Pulse ignores emails from generic email providers (gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc.) and from Pulse itself to prevent forwarding loops.
